How You Can Help Elect Democrats (In Addition To Voting)

"If we want things to change, then we must quit talking about the change we want, and work to make

that change happen.  Otherwise, the change we get is the change someone else wants." - Cecil Webster

HOST A
"MEET & GREET"

Money does not win elections, but it is almost impossible to win elections without money.  Money enables a candidate to get his or her message out to the voters.  But regardless of the financial situation, "word of mouth" dissemination of information is the most critical element in a successful campaign.  As such, you can always help get the message out by hosting a house party (2-12 people) or other public event (10+ people) where  invitations are extended to specifically targeted groups and individuals.

If hosted at home, simple refreshments would be appropriate but are not required (coffee, tea, chips, cheese and crackers, etc).

The focus is on ensuring that voters with a high turnout probability know about Cecil's campaign, the issues he is focused on (or should be), and how they can help him win.

OTHER OPPORTUNITIES

There are numerous ways volunteers can support a campaign.  These include:

  • Block walking in neighborhoods to hand deliver campaign material door-to-door

  • Making telephone calls to encourage voters to vote

  • Giving voters rides to the polls on Election Day or during Early Voting

  • Hosting a meeting or house party to get the word out about campaigns

  • Writing letters to the editor and newspaper articles supporting Democratic causes

  • Sending personal postcards to voters on behalf of Cecil's campaign

MAKE A DONATION

MAKE A DONATION TO YOUR FAVORITE CANDIDATES, TO YOUR LOCAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY, AND TO THE TEXAS DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

Unfortunately, it is expensive to run for and to support candidates running for office.  In addition to the required filing fee (usually a minimum of $750), candidates require funding to:

  • purchase campaign yard signs and road signs

  • print campaign flyers and other information

  • publish advertisements in newspapers and run radio ads

  • develop and mail postcards

  • pay transportation expenses to install and take down signs

  • buy stamps and office supplies to maintain contact with constituents

  • develop and maintain websites and other media
